A Legacy of Innovation and Service
As we mark the monumental milestone of United Country Real Estate’s 100th anniversary, we find ourselves reflecting on the journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the nation’s leading rural real estate brands.
Founded in 1925 by Roscoe L. Chamberlain, United Country Real Estate was born at a time when automobiles were still a new concept, and the notion of space travel was relegated to the pages of science fiction. Chamberlain, a visionary ahead of his time, recognized the challenges that sellers faced in marketing rural properties to potential buyers beyond their immediate towns. He set out with a singular goal: to make it easier for individuals to buy and sell homes, vacation properties, land, and other rural real estate, especially in areas that many had yet to explore.
Chamberlain’s idea was revolutionary — to offer a nationwide platform that connected rural sellers with a broad pool of buyers. He founded United Farm Agency, which later evolved into United Country Real Estate, and opened the first office in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Just a year later, in 1926, the company boasted 42 agencies and recorded 245 successful sales, a testament to the appeal of rural properties and the effectiveness of this new marketing approach.
What started in Fayetteville has blossomed into a nationwide network, with offices and agents across the country. One of the most remarkable aspects of United Country is that the original office in Fayetteville is still in business today, operating continuously for 100 years — a remarkable testament to Chamberlain’s vision and the company’s dedication to serving the needs of rural property buyers and sellers.
Over the past century, United Country Real Estate has continued to innovate, consistently adapting to new technologies and the evolving needs of buyers and sellers alike. From the early days of print advertising to the digital marketing tools that define the real estate industry today, United Country has embraced every advancement, always staying ahead of the curve.
As we celebrate this incredible journey, it’s impossible not to think about the impact United Country has had on markets across the country. In Northern Minnesota, for example, where vast expanses of untouched wilderness meet charming rural communities, United Country’s legacy is felt through businesses like Bold North Realty & Auctions. Much like the vision Chamberlain set in motion, Bold North Realty & Auctions continues to serve those looking for homes, cabins, investment land, and recreational properties in the Bold North — a region known for its scenic beauty and outdoor lifestyle. The same principles that led to United Country’s success in the 1920s continue to shape how properties in Northern Minnesota are marketed today, helping connect buyers with properties in this pristine region.
In Northern Minnesota, like much of the rural U.S., it’s still about more than just real estate — it’s about helping people find their slice of country life. Whether you’re looking to hunt, fish, or simply enjoy the solitude of nature, the real estate agents at Bold North Realty & Auctions carry on the proud tradition of service that United Country has fostered for a century.
Here’s to another 100 years of connecting people with the properties that make their dreams come true. Thank you for being part of our story.
